With proper use and handling, lithium batteries have demonstrated an excellent safety record. Lithium batteries are capable of withstanding severe drilling conditions thanks to the protective circuity, hermetic seals, fuses and diodes used in their assembly. This results in lithium batteries being highly reliable to the oil and gas industry.
ABOUT lithium Cells
Lithium Thionyl Chloride cells are the most common cell used in the downhole industry with a stable operating voltage of 3.67V, high energy capability, wide operating temperature range and robust construction for high shock and vibration tolerance.
RISKS and EMERGENCY EVENTS
Explosion and fires; fumes and vapours; lithium leaks. All are hazards that may occurs if a lithium battery is handled inappropriately. The following measures must be adhered to if one or more of these events occurs.
